About Us

Calvary Chapel Lemon Grove was founded in 1991 by Pastor David Ammann, with his wife Denise of 26 years. Dave’s passion has been to see people come to a saving knowledge of Christ and for them to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Recognizing the challenges this world presents to a vibrant and fulfilling faith, he encourages believers to develop a deep intimacy with the Lord Jesus – through regular Bible study, prayer, fellowship and loving service to others.

Calvary Chapel Lemon Grove is a fellowship of Christian believers who desire to glorify God in all things. This simply means that by our attitudes and actions we want God to be honored and exalted. Our example is found in Jesus Christ. As His representatives, we are charged with exhibiting Godly behavior (Matt 5:16) to all those around us. Therefore, under the guidance of God’s Spirit, we seek to fulfill two Biblical goals. To establish the saved and to evangelize the lost!

Through the years, it has been clear that serving and loving those who come through the church’s doors has been God’s purpose for CCLG. Many have come and gone, their faith strengthened and challenged by their time in the church.

Who knows where the Lord will lead us. Our only desire is to be faithful to the course He has laid out before us – teaching the Word, sharing the Gospel, and being a light to those in our community.

Statement of Faith

WE BELIEVE the whole Bible to be the inspired, inerrant Word of God without error in the original writings. As such the Bible is our one true source of revelation from God and is superior to conscience and reason, though not contrary to reason and is therefore authoritative for living our daily lives. (Isaiah 55:11; Psalm 19:3,9; 2 Tim 3:1:6; 2 Pet 1:2,3)

WE BELIEVE there is one GOD, infinite, eternal and immutable (never changing). He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Governor of all things. He eternally exists in three distinct persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Deut 6:4; Isa 9:6; Isa 48:12,16,17; Co1 1:13-23; In 14:16)

WE BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus Christ, the pre-existent eternal Son of God who became fully man, without ceasing to be fully God; We believe in His Virgin Birth; His Sinless life; His substitutionary death for our sins; His Bodily Resurrection, Ascension, and Second Coming. (Acts 2:22-38; Rev 19; 1 Cor 15:1-28; Phil 2:5-11; Heb 1:1-4; 4:14,15)

WE BELIEVE that all men are sinners by nature and by practice; being alienated from God, Man is unable to remedy his lost condition in and of himself. (Rom 1:18-23; 3:10, 23; Jer 9:13,14; 17:9,10)

WE BELIEVE that Salvation is the gift of God brought to man by Grace and received by personal trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. God then justifies man based on faith alone, not of any works. Those who have trusted Christ are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and enabled to live a Godly life through submission to Him. (Rom 5:8-11; Eph 2:8-10; Rom 10: 8-13; Gal 5:16-25)

WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit is a person. He is God and possesses all the divine attributes. He indwells all Believers at conversion (Spirit baptism); imparts gifts as He desires. He subsequently and repeatedly comes upon (epi) and fills Believers for service, in response to confession of sin and submission to Him. (Rom 8:1-2, 9-11,14,16; 1 Corinthians 12:7-28; Eph 5:18-21)

WE BELIEVE unconfessed sin and unrepentant hearts bring interruption in fellowship with God, bringing the loving discipline of the Heavenly Father. (Psa 51; Isa 59; 63:7-10; James 4:6-10; Hebrews 12:9-11)

WE BELIEVE in the church of Jesus Christ as the body of true believers universal, called out by the Holy Spirit, espoused to be the Bride of Christ. (1 Cor 12:12-28; Eph 4:4-16; 5;23-32)

WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ committed two ordinances to the Church: (1) Water Baptism by immersion in obedience to God and for repentance and public testimony of conversion. Though an important act of obedience, baptism does not in any way add to our salvation. ( Mt 3:13-17; 28:18-20; 1 Pet 3:21) (2) The Lords Supper or communion open to all believers regardless of age. (Luke 22; 19,20; 1 Cor 11:23-28).

WE BELIEVE in the personal, imminent (ready to take place at any moment), pre-tribulational and pre-millennial return of Jesus Christ to rapture (snatch away) His Church and subsequently to establish His visible kingdom. (Is 26:19-21; Mt 16:27; 24:42-44; Acts 1:11; 1 Cor 15:50-58; 1 Thess 4:14-18; 5:1-9)

WE BELIEVE in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost- the saved unto eternal life and the lost unto eternal judgment. (Dan 12:2; Mt 25:31-34,46; In 5:28,29; Rev 20:11-15)

An Overview of the Calvary Chapel Distinctives

  • Calvary Chapel was formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • Although Calvary Chapel has spread rapidly throughout the world, we are not technically a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ.

  • We believe that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is His (Agape) love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.

  • We believe worship of God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.

  • We believe worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give a great place to music in our worship.

  • We believe worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon teaching the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshiped.

  • We believe worship of God is fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshiping Him.
